In our blog we inform you about the latest news from Gran Canaria.
With the first blog entry I would like to take the opportunity to give you a short review of the last 11 years of my work as a German real estate agent on the beautiful Canary Island.
How it all began:
In the winter of 1999 I boarded the holiday plane in Hannover at - 10 °C. After a flight of 4,5 hours we landed at the airport about 3.500 km away with the melodious name "Las Palmas de Gran Canaria". The temperature difference of 35° C almost took my breath away. After an eventful and relaxing week it was clear to me: I would like to live here permanently.
More holidays followed (twice a year for 1 week each), which made me want to change my residence more and more.
Nine years later: In July 2008 I went to the island with a One Way Ticket. A great dream came true!
On 09.11.2009 the time had finally come, "Sun World Immobilien" was founded and brought to life by me. Unbelievable how fast time goes by, now we have been the contact for our numerous customers who are mainly interested in buying, selling or renting or letting on the island for more than 11 years.
Understandable! Like us, tourists from different countries, house owners and locals appreciate the quality of life on the Canary Islands. It is not only the sunny, constant and pleasant year-round climate with an average temperature of 23°C, but also the general attitude to life, the good mood, the countless sports possibilities, the fantastic mountain scenery, the dunes of Maspalomas and the graceful, deep blue Atlantic Ocean.
Again and again customers and friends ask me if I could imagine a life with main residence in Germany again, the honest answer is, it is indeed very difficult to imagine and not in my sense. The social life, the many dear contacts and the work are simply too much fun to change anything about.
Another frequently asked question is: What is life as an estate agent like in concrete terms, especially on the island. Do you actually work properly or do you spend most of your time lying on the beach, strolling through the famous shopping centres CITA, Kashba and the Yumbo centre or do you eat one ice-cream sundae after the next in the trendy Café Maximilians or Café de Paris at the lighthouse of Meloneras.
When I write this, it doesn't sound so bad and I could probably get used to it! Unfortunately, a permanent life on a holiday island doesn't mean a holiday - there's a lot of work behind it. Especially in the winter months from October to April, 12-14 hour days are not uncommon, not every day but it happens quite often. My philosophy is: "Working time is lifetime", so you should like what you do.
Here on Gran Canaria public life usually starts a little later than in Germany, Austria or Switzerland. There is little movement before 09:00 a.m., so the working hours have also shifted a little in contrast to Germany. The working day begins with the first telephone calls and the processing of e-mails. My goal to answer every e-mail within 24 hours is as good as always. I really appreciate quick action and punctuality, I have been able to preserve the good old German virtues. In my office, which is located at the tulip roundabout in San Fernando de Maspalomas, I look forward to pleasant customer contacts and coordinate future house inspections. The activity of a real estate agent offers a lot of variety, no situation is the same, no house is identical, every client is different.
This is what I really love and what motivates me, rarely in one place and I enjoy travelling with people.
For taking pictures or sightseeing I am usually in the south of Gran Canaria in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, mainly in the regions of Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés, but of course also very often in San Agustín, Meloneras, Sonnenland, Playa del Águila, San Fernando, El Tablero up to Salobre Golf and Pasito Blanco with its beautiful marina.
The regions of Arguineguin, Puerto Rico to Mogán are not so frequently requested by our clients, but it happens from time to time. Island lovers who prefer the rural areas and a beautiful finca are also welcome.
A not inconsiderable part of our working time is devoted to the publication and presentation of real estate in various forms. For example, in newspapers, in the shop window, on the radio, on Facebook or on the most diverse Internet sites and real estate portals.
After 11 years, the former website has now come to an end and a new one has been programmed. I hope it is clearly arranged and successful. I would be very pleased about a feedback to our new Internet presence!
At the end of my first blog entry I would like to thank all our customers very much. Without your trust and your reliability "Sun World Immobilien" would certainly not exist. I am looking forward to our common future and the tasks ahead.
Sunny greetings from Gran Canaria,
Kai Derichs
