In our blog we inform you about the latest news from Gran Canaria.
In my blog entries I try to be informative and to present our beautiful Canary Island with tips or recommendations from various areas or to bring something closer. Sometimes I report on the local real estate market, its special features, characteristics or changes, and in other articles about island life, nature, great restaurants and beautiful places that you should have visited and explored. This is essentially a reflection of my own personal opinion, as is the case with today's topic.
One thing should be said first, the Canary Islands beaches probably can't quite compete with the Maldives, but they are really beautiful, well-maintained and offer you relaxation, safe bathing fun and the possibility of many sporting activities.
The most famous and largest sandy beach on Gran Canaria begins in the tourist resort of Playa del Inglés and leads to Meloneras, with the "Faro de Maspalomas" lighthouse located there. The length is about 5 km, directly adjacent are the famous dunes of Maspalomas, this nature reserve is impressive and worth seeing. For nature conservation reasons, you should not leave the designated paths. At the beach of Playa del Inglés, activities such as: Jet skiing, parasailing, banana boat, surfing and kite surfing.

In the island capital Las Palmas (approx. 380,000 inhabitants) you will find the sandy beach "Playa de las Canteras", which is about 3 km long. This city beach is somewhat reminiscent of the Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro. Along this beach there are countless restaurants, bars, cafés, small shops and also the culture/concert house "Auditorio Alfredo Krauss" as well as the shopping centre "Las Arenas". Not necessarily the perfect place for those seeking peace and quiet, but for people who want to immerse themselves in Spanish life. In Las Palmas it is cloudy more often than in the southern part of the island, so it is better to check the daily weather beforehand.
The beach "Playa de Amadores" is a very beautiful, about 800 m long bathing bay with turquoise blue water and is located between the tourist places "Puerto Rico" and "Playa de Cura". On windy days, this bay is quite sheltered from the wind, there are hardly any waves here, so you can swim and snorkel excellently. There are many restaurants, ice cream parlours and small shops along the playa. The luxurious "Beach Club Amadores" and the adjacent "Amadores Beach Club Restaurant" are also very nice and highly recommended. From Maspalomas, it takes about 15 minutes by car to get to Playa de Amadores. Of course, the blue flag also flies at this beach (as at many others on Gran Canaria), which guarantees cleanliness and good water quality.
If you drive from Amadores beach in the direction of Puerto Rico, you will discover the nearest sandy beach in just 5 minutes. This is usually used by the tourists or residents who live there. It is a beautiful bathing bay with almost no waves, so you can swim here very well and even smaller children will feel very comfortable. From Puerto Rico, you can also go on boat trips. In addition to the typical glass-bottom boat, there are speed boats, dolphin tours, party boats or excursions by sailing boat or catamaran. If you want to go shopping after your bathing fun, visit the new, large shopping centre "Mogán Mall" in Puerto Rico.

Beach lovers who prefer a little more peace and quiet will feel at home at Playa de Cura, where things are a little more tranquil. However, it can also get crowded here at the weekends.

Many of you will be familiar with "Puerto de Mogán", our little Venice on Gran Canaria, where you can not only explore the very beautiful village, enjoy a delicious meal or drink a glass of wine at the tranquil harbour, but also jump into the Atlantic Ocean. Here, too, there is a beautiful sandy beach with sun loungers and umbrellas. (As is the case with almost all Canarian beaches).
If the little hunger calls, you will find numerous restaurants along the promenade. If you would like to take a dive, book a trip on the submarine "Yellow Submarine", which is also located in Puerto de Mogán. You can get there by car from Maspalomas / Playa del Inglés in around 15-20 minutes on the GC 1.
Do you already know the beach of "Pasito Blanco"?
If not, I wouldn't be surprised. Because of the barrier at the entrance to this urbanisation, one or the other visitor is unsettled, because the assumption quickly arises that only residents have access. However, this is only partly true, because only people with the appropriate permit are actually allowed to drive through. You can visit Pasito Blanco on foot and also go to the beach there. It is an elite residential area, most of the houses are in the millions. There is no catering and no sunbeds on the beach, but you get the feeling of having escaped tourism a bit.
From Pasito Blanco you drive in about 15 minutes to "San Agustín", there you can visit and also enjoy the "Playa del las Burras", also a well-kept and popular sandy beach with a blue flag, here you should also be prepared for windy beach days from time to time. Should this be the case, simply drive to Playa de Amadores in about 15 minutes by car. With gusty easterly winds, it should be far more pleasant there.
"Anfi del Mar", is another highly recommended beach with white sand. There are also various restaurants and shops there. The small island with the "Anfi Beach Club" and the adjacent sports harbour are also very nice. At weekends it can be a little more difficult to find a parking space, but you will certainly have luck on your side.
The water temperatures of the Atlantic Ocean on Gran Canaria average 22 degrees in the summer months, although 24 degrees is also quite possible. In the winter months it is around 20 degrees, so bathing is possible all year round.
